About Unmani Sarasvati

Document Actions

Unmani only practices law as a mediator and Collaborative Practice attorney because she has witnessed firsthand the negative, long-term effects the traditional adversarial system’s approach to divorce can have on people.

Unmani has dedicated her practice of law to offering non-adversarial divorce services which may prevent future children, adults, friends, and families from experiencing the tough emotional fall-out that many traditional divorces create. Unmani believes that giving clients the option to reject the traditional adversarial system, and resolve their marriage relationship with respect and dignity, is a potential first step for clients to creating a future that is positive, bright, and clear both for themselves and for their children.

Unmani received an undergraduate degree with High Honors from the University of California at Berkeley in 1996. After taking six years off to be a stay-home step-mom, she graduated from Golden Gate University School of Law’s Honors Lawyering Program in 2004. Unmani focused her studies on family law, including a one year clerkship with Family Law Commissioner Josanna Berkow in Department 51 of the Contra Costa Superior Court. After passing the July 2004 Bar exam, Unmani received training in mediation and Collaborative Practice. She opened Mediation Offices of Unmani Sarasvati, PC to offer these services to her community.

In addition to her mediation practice, Unmani also teaches conflict resolution skills and mediation approaches at the Piedmont Adult School.
